Lavazza serves its eighth year at Wimbledon as the Official Coffee of The Championships. I wass honoured to be invited to celebrate this prestigious partnership through two exclusive days. Lavazza’s brand message #MoreThanItalian highlights that a quintessential Italian coffee is more than just a typical espresso, and can instead be adapted to everyone’s unique tastes. Everyone has their own unique expression, whether it be a Flat white, Cold brew, Macchiato or an Affogato. However, at the core of this, a true Italian espresso forms the foundation of each drink.

No.5 Social with Jason Atherton

Lavazza has had an established commitment to combining top gastronomy with its luxurious coffee. This year, Lavazza have also brought its culinary excellence and experimentation to the lawns of the Grand Slams as they hosted some of the world’s most renowned Michelin-starred chef’s, including Jason Atherton of the Social Restaurants, Shaun Rankin of Ormer Mayfair, and Andrea Camastra. This intimate evening on Tuesday consisted of the unique collaboration between the three masterminds hosted at Atherton’s newly revamped No.5 Social on Pollen Street in Mayfair, where they delivered a flawless menu centered around coffee.

I have been a religious follower of Atherton’s culinary career since he left Gordon Ramsay’s Michelin-starred Maze in 2010. Having dined at his ventures in South East Asia with Esquina in Singapore, Aberdeen Street Social and 22 Ships in Hong Kong, and Marina Social in Dubai, both City Social and Pollen Street, the experience of having my meal made by Atherton himself was unforgettable.

Shaun Rankin has also been a chef that we look up to, with his award-winning Ormer outpost in Mayfair and Yorkshire heritage. Having lived in North Yorkshire for 3 years during University, I am truly excited upon hearing that Shaun is returning to his Yorkshire roots to open a fine-dining establishment at Grantley Hall - which I am visiting this Spring!

Day 4 at Wimbledon - The Grand Slams

Cementing Lavazza’s global commitment to tennis, Lavazza maintains it’s long-standing food partnership with all four Grand-Slam tournaments for four consecutive years, being the only food and beverage company to do so. We spent the fourth day at Wimbledon moving between the Lavazza suite and Court 1, sampling a variety of their premium coffee blends, in addition to mingling with the Lavazza family and culinary legends. Lavazza is indeed a premium product at its core, its versatility being played out in our Buffet lunch and at the drinks bar.

We also sampled a dessert uniquely created by Ferran and Albert Adria of the famous Michel-starred ElBulli, incorporating Lavazza’s signature coffee blend with Chocolate and passion fruit tart with Hazelnut and Amaretto paired with a creamy Affogato. After sampling Albert Adria’s famously expensive cheesecake at Cakes and Bubbles on Regent Street, we were intrigued (and blown away) at the intricacy of the seemingly simple dessert.

Serena Williams on Court 1

And of course - The Wimbledon experience from Court 1! Thank you to Lavazza for hosting me and for such a memorable week. The Wimbledon experience is about so much more than the tennis, coinciding with Lavazza’s belief that the company is a lifestyle, and not “just a cup of coffee”.
