The Miami Beach Edition - South Beach, Miami
If you’re searching for the new, luxury “it” hotel in South Beach, you’ve found it. A sprawling three-and-a-half-acre private enclave on Miami Beach's famed Collins Avenue, The Miami Beach Edition is a unique, intricately designed oceanfront complex offering pretty much everything you could even conjure up — dining, nightlife, socializing, recreation, culture and even meeting space for work — all under one roof. Celebrity hotelier Ian Schrager succeeds in his vision to transform the historic mid-century hotel into a modern-day resort.
We reserved a private-king room, and our request for an upper floor was granted; the view did not disappoint. The sun-drenched corner unit overlooked the downtown city skyline, the Intracoastal Waterway and a scenic slice of ocean. Minimalist Art Deco-leaning décor consisted of an iron-frame canopy bed with a midnight-blue leather headboard, a three-seat sofa under graffiti-esque artwork, a TV, and an Eames-style desk and chair.
Breakfast at The Miami Edition was a TREAT. With a full international buffet and the choice of A-la carte, I found that most days I didn’t need to eat until dinner time.
The hotel also comes with an underground bowling alley. I can safely say I have never stayed at another hotel that has one of these, and we weren’t complaining.
The Edition is also a stone throw from South Beach. Think retro deck-chairs, plenty of muscular men and women clad in tight bikini shorts (for both sexes), and waitresses serving fat mojito’s.
I stayed here for 5 days, and loved every minute of it. The hotel is chock-full of things to do if you end up exhausting the Miami sites early. I will definitely be returning to the Edition on my next trip to South Beach.
